Tongxiang Fm
Type Locality and Naming
Western Zhejiang. The Tongxiang Formation was named by the Department of Petroleum Exploration of Zhejiang in 1988. The type locality is in the Tongxiang County of Zhejiang. The key section is down the Shuangqiaohang borehole 31 in Baimamiao of the Tongxiang County of Zhejiang (120º27', 30º40'). No typical outcrops have been described.
Lithology and Thickness
The Tongxiang Formation is divided into 3 parts. Lower part is composed of grayish purple mudstone, siltstone, thin-grained sandstone, gravel-bearing sandstone and sandy conglomerate, 287.4-450.5 m thick. Middle part consists of light brown, grayish purple muddy siltstone, thin-grained sandstone, gravel-bearing sandstone and sandy conglomerate, 178-235.5 m thick. Upper part is light brown, pink muddy siltstone, siltstone, thin grained sandstone intercalated with grayish brown mudstone, about 100 m thick. A gravel-bearing sandstone bed occurs at the bottom of the formation.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
The Tongxiang Formation is disconformably overlying the Quxian Fm.
Upper contact
The Tongxiang Formation unconformably underlies the Neogene strata.
